This is the fastest-growing destination in Mexico. It has a full array of water and land activities, golf and tennis, relaxing spas, galleries and shopping, beautiful beaches, and great nightlife and restaurants. Indeed, there is something for everyone in Cabo.

The Los Cabos region is unique in itself as it has three distinct personalities, including the two towns of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo and the 20-mile Tourist Corridor that connects them, offering additional luxury resorts and private residences. The Los Cabos area offers vacationers many lodging options including Cabo luxury villas, private home rentals, and rentals at any one of many beautiful resorts such as Villa La Estancia Resort on the popular Medano Beach.

Todos Santos

This town is located on the Pacific coast about an hour and a half drive from either La Paz or Cabo San Lucas. It has long been a haven for ex-pats artists, surfers, and the occasional fugitive on the run from the US government. What makes it special is that it offers staggering views of the Sierra Laguna mountain range while you walk along deserted beaches and watch whales frolic just offshore. The natural wonder of this place has attracted people from all over the world and you'll find great restaurants in and around the town center.

La Paz

La Paz is one of the most sought-after destinations among enthusiastic travelers. It is a vibrant city that bustles with activities. What is the Cost of Living in Baja California?

The availability of both a high quality of life and also a low cost of living is possible due to many factors, including the cost of food, including fresh fish, shrimp, fruit, and vegetables that are available year-round, reasonably-priced auto and home insurance and maintenance services, inexpensive dining and entertainment, low property taxes, and other factors that allow our residents to spend less than a third of what they would live in the United States or Canada.

Another big factor in this equation is the availability of inexpensive medical care that cost less than $250 per person annually. This high-quality medical service includes all procedures and medications at no additional cost and requires absolutely no copays or out-of-pocket expenses of any kind whatsoever.

Baja California Sur offers something for every budget. Even in the more expensive cities, modest housing can be found for less than $100,000.

Do a lot of Americans live in Baja California?

About 1.5 million U.S. citizens live permanently in Baja California and many have put down roots in Baja California’s coastal cities, such as Rosarito Beach, where city officials estimate approximately 15,000 of them live about 20 miles south of the border.

By law, American tourists can stay in Baja California for up to six months. For many snowbirds and retirees, six months is more than enough. They head south for the chilly winter months and come back to enjoy spring and summer stateside. Some also do “visa runs” to other countries and extends their stay. This is a good strategy if you are not sure whether or not you are staying in Baja California permanently and want a bit of extra time to sort out your plans. As with most destinations, you cannot work while you are in the country as a tourist.

If you are confident of your plans, you can pursue temporary residency or permanent residency, often in combination with a retirement visa. The visa application begins at the nearest Mexican embassy or consulate in your home country. You can expect to fill out an application, provide proof that you can support yourself financially, and have an interview with the staff.

In order to qualify for the temporary visa, you must show a monthly income of 300 times the minimum daily wage in Mexico. To qualify for a permanent visa, you must show a monthly income of 500 times the minimum wage. In both cases, your income must be documented with six months of bank statements.

The loopholes have prompted an influx of U.S. citizens that started in the late 1990s. It is estimated that 1.5 about million Americans now live in Mexico, with tens of thousands residing in Baja California, where they can keep one foot in familiar terrain by hopping across the border into San Diego.

What is the Cheapest State to Live in Mexico?

Puebla is one of the cheapest places to live in Mexico. The monthly cost of living in Puebla starts from around $1,150 USD, depending on one’s lifestyle choices. This includes rent, groceries, eating out, activities, coffee, and more. If you're a couple, it's more like $1,900 USD.

The cost of living in Puebla is low. Spacious apartments are available in town at moderate prices and some have private courtyards. It is possible to find a two-bedroom home outside of the historic district for as low as $500 a month. A two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment close to the centro costs around $700 to $800.

Local markets provide plenty of local fruits, vegetables, and meats at affordable prices. Retirees can stock up on meat, vegetables, fruits, eggs, and cheese for about $25 a week. Supermarkets offer imported items but even buying those won’t add more than $10 to $15 per week to your food bill. Due to the mild climate, there is also no need for air conditioning which keeps electric bills low.

When you want to go out, there are plenty of choices. Eat at local “menu of the day” places for a traditional large lunch and you’ll spend $3 to $4 per person. Go out to a nice dinner with cocktails and wine and your bill maybe $30 to $40 for two people.
